The Detour traveling notebook experience reaches New York City after showcasing in Paris and Shanghai earlier this year.
75 decorated notebooks by creative thinkers including Paula Scher, Francis Kéré, Sigur Rós and William Kentridge arrive in New York, revealing unique stories, dreams, projects, and distinctive ways of relating to the society we live in. Each notebook is part of the Moleskine Foundation Collection and generously donated by the authors in support of the Foundation’s mission of “Creativity for Social Change."
Step into the world each notebook portrays; their blank pages morph into an expression of human ingenuity and a message of inspiration to all. Whether scribbled, torn apart, rebuilt or regenerated, each notebook is a testimony to the personality, imagination, and memory of the person who owned it.
The 75 notebooks will be on view at One World Observatory located at the top of One World Trade Center, a symbol of peace, rebirth, and progress where we celebrate the role creativity has in shaping not only this creative capital but the entire world. The landmark venue joins Moleskine in becoming a supporter of the Moleskine Foundation by contributing to its Creativity Pioneers Fund, which will provide resources to non-profit organizations who use creativity to power positive social change in communities across the globe.
Moleskine invited 25 artists from the New York art gallery Harman Projects to be a part of the exhibition and share their unique vision.
Each participating artist donated their notebook to the Moleskine Foundation Collection, adding a new layer to the ongoing conversation around the role of creativity in generating change.
In June 2022, the gallery will host a separate Detour exhibition of all 25 works of art.
