Picasso first visited Paris in 1900 and spent the next four years traveling back and forth between Barcelona and Paris. During this time of travelling, he witnessed and experienced many different cultures and people which inspired his work later in his life.
Moleskine notebooks have been the heirs and inheritors of legendary notebooks for two centuries, beloved by artists and thinkers such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. Its origins date back to the early 20th century, considered to be the Golden Age of literary modernism. Paris, the creative mecca of that time has many creative people roaming its streets, sitting in cafes and taking notes in small notebooks. In that era, people from all walks of life held black notebooks in their hands and jotted down precious sketches, notes, stories, and ideas.
This year's notebook was created through a partnership with Pola Museum for Picasso lovers, as well as those who were Picasso's contemporaries before and after the "Blue Period," in the hopes of bringing them in touch with his work by providing a canvas for them to explore different styles, just as Pablo Picasso did in his younger days.
To mark Pola Museum’s 20th Anniversary, an exhibition showcasing Picasso’s artworks from the Blue Period will be held between September 17, 2022~January 15, 2023.
Picasso's vigorous creative drive never ceased throughout his 91-year life, from his origins in The Blue Period to his exploration of experimental Cubism until his maturity to his later years.
Using The Blue Period as a theme in this collaboration, we present a simple yet elegant notebook with a deep navy-blue hardcover and an embossed logo in gold. On both the paper band and inside you will find a print of Picasso’s 「Mother and Child by the Sea」.
As you hold this notebook in your hands, we hope to spark a sense of creativity and ignite a feeling of inspiration to create a something that is truly yours.
