This Year of the Dragon Gift Set displays the talent and creativity of South Korean typographer and visual designer Ahn Sang Soo.
Ahn Sang Soo is a skilled visual designer and typographer who won the Gutenberg Prize by Leipzig, Germany in 2007. He has taken part in solo and group exhibitions in several countries and was asked to exhibit at the 2022 Tokyo Biennale. He founded PaTI (Paju Typography Institute), an independent design school where he currently works as principal.
The eye-catching gold box opens to reveal a large sketchbook with Ahn Sang Soo’s original interpretation of the Year of the Dragon on its tactile canvas hard cover. The sketchbook pages are made from 165 g/m² paper which makes the perfect base for a wide selection of artistic media, and which also stands up to eraser use. To mark Lunar New Year, the sketchbook includes themed stickers and lucky envelopes which also explore Ahn Sang Soo’s bold creativity.
This gift set also features a stencil with the artist's original take on the traditional Korean alphabet together with the character on the notebook cover. This stencil enables users to learn about and experiment with modern Korean typography. Last but not least is a Moleskine x Kaweco fountain pen with black ink and a gold-plated fine-size nib to experiment with lettering and calligraphy.
This Gift Set is part of the Lunar New Year & Sakura Collection. The collection unites three contemporary creatives from three diverse countries in a celebration of Eastern traditions: Japanese manga creator Momoko Sakura, Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi, and South Korean typographic designer Ahn Sang Soo.
